When you start up a new company, your To Do list is long and keeps getting longer. As founders, you roll your sleeves up and jump into everything, from building your first website to writing the business plan that you hope will deliver your ambition and the opportunity in front of you. There is so much stuff that needs to get done, big and small, exciting and mundane, that prioritising your To Do list is tough.
But there has been one action at the top of the list from Day One – to find and hire a smart and senior technologist with relevant experience – someone who shares our passion for GeoAR and Darabase’s proposition to bring privacy and permission to the immersive future of digital. Up until now we have worked with an external team to develop our product. Having an internal tech leader sitting round the table with me and David is key though, and it’s taken a little while to find someone with the right skills, attitude and cultural fit.
So I am delighted to welcome to our founding team Mark James, our fantastic new Head of Engineering! Mark (or mARk as we now call him 🙂 is a great mix of “roll your sleeves up and get coding” and senior experience to help define and deliver the Darabase product, platform and team at scale. He is a hands on, start-up Engineering Lead with specific experience in spatial data, property and database solutions. Previously Mark was CTO of Lendy, a crowdfunding marketplace, and has an impressive track record of building and scaling start-ups as well as delivering technical platforms for American Express, the English Football League, Bloomsbury Publishing and the European Space Agency. It’s great to have him on board and I’m excited that our technical delivery is already accelerating as a result.
