Darabase partners with New West End Company to bring AR to the Christmas Lights in London’s West End

The “Festive Magic” experience features an interactive map which guides Christmas shoppers to the best spots for gorgeous gift inspiration and festive fashion finds so they can really make the most of their visit to the West End along with a simple and fun AR filter encouraging social sharing with the festive lights.

This year’s Christmas lights on Oxford Street feature over 5,000 stars to create an extraordinary celestial lighting display. Whilst on London’s luxury shopping hotspot Bond Street, beautiful peacock-feather and chandelier-inspired Christmas lights frame the flagship stores.

Taking visual inspiration from the Christmas light themes, Darabase have created two augmented reality experiences, one for Oxford Street and one for Bond Street. In total there are six locations from where a user can launch the webAR experiences from their mobile device. Once camera permissions are enabled they can either take a photo or a selfie with the AR adding some serious Christmas sparkle!

The West End’s Christmas lights have long been a social sharing opportunity and now through the Festive Magic of AR, Darabase is helping bring even more immersive wonder to the experience.

Darabase worked with Olivia Brotheridge who illustrated the map and the assets for each location.

Visit London’s West End throughout December to try it out for yourself and why not share to social media with the hashtag #festivemagic

Luciana Magliocco, Associate Director at New West End Company said

“Oxford Street and Bond Street are internationally renowned for their spectacular Christmas Lights and unrivalled festive offering. This December, visitors can scan one of the QR codes dotted across Oxford Street and Bond Street to access our Festive Pocket Concierge and unlock a treasure trail of delights – highlighting where to shop gorgeous gifts and festive fashion finds, to the most magical instagrammable spots, so they can really make the most of their Christmas shopping trip.”

Dominic Collins, CEO of Darabase added,

“Darabase specialises in creating world scale immersive experiences and what better canvas to work with than the stunning Christmas lights of Oxford Street and Bond Street in London.  AR adds a new dimension for visitors and we are excited to see how people engage with the Festive Magic experience.”
